As a result of the Air Jordan 6’s release in 1991, infrared and Air Jordans have been associated for many years. But in 2014, Jordan Brand took the connection to another level with releases like the “Infrared 23” Air Jordan 3 Retro. As one of the retro Jordans being produced that year, the Air Jordan 3 was given a taste of the “new” Infrared color, which appeared on a handful of sneakers.
Like the original Jordan 3 from 1988, designed by Tinker Hatfield as the shoe that kept Michael Jordan with Nike, the “Infrared 23” Jordan 3 features the iconic Elephant Print around the toe box and surrounding the heel at the rear of the shoe. With a white upper, this shoe looks very “White Cement,” but that’s where the Infrared 23 differs from the others. The upper is black, while the tongue and inner lining are black.
A black outsole and upper midsole are also used, leaving only two places for the Infrared 23 accents, the lace holes and inside the visible Air unit in the heel. Despite the fact that it’s not an original colorway, the Air Jordan 3 Retro “Infrared 23” honors the past without feeling like it’s the same old colorways all over again.
